A Goodland, Indiana man burned to death inside a home where he hid from Police officers before setting it ablaze Thursday morning.
Official identification of the human remains is pending but Newton County Sheriff’s Department detectives believe they belonged to a 40-year-old man who had started the house fire.
It all began when police received a call about a man acting violently and destroying a house early that morning.
When officers reached the scene, the man refused to comply with their orders and became combative as they tried to handcuff him.
He was tasered and pepper-sprayed but still managed to flee and retreated back to the residence. Police used a loudspeaker to contact him before he started breaking the windows.
“A short time later, smoke was seen coming from a broken upstairs window and the house became fully involved in fire,” police said.
After extinguishing the fire, human remains were located upstairs of the home. The man’s identity was not publicly revealed.
