Manhunt underway in Tacoma after gunfire broke out in streets killing 4, injuring 7, and terrorizing residents

Tacoma Police Department said Friday that the manhunt for the suspect(s) who opened fire in the streets killing four people and wounding seven others is underway.

First reports of the shooting emerged at around 4:24 p.m. Thursday from the city’s Eastside when gunfire erupted behind a home in Everett Avenue and on East 42nd Street in the Salishan neighborhood.

SWAT teams responded to the scene and pronounced three people, two women and a man, dead while a fourth male victim died at a hospital.

    “This is a horrific crime. at this time I cannot say whether there was one or multiple shooters,” Police spokeswoman Wendy Haddow said.

    Greg Riemersm, a resident of the neighborhood, told reporters that “immediately all of us got down on the floor” after hearing the shots in the street.

    “I’ll cry after my grandkids go to bed. I’m not going to break down in front of them,” he added.
