Nevada authorities are investigating how the remains of a woman missing for nearly a year were discovered at the same spot she was last seen at despite countless search efforts.
A hiker called 911 after spotting a human skull on September 6 near Black Mountain in Henderson. Officers located other skeletal remains later identified as 26-year-old Jawaher Hejji.
The coroner’s office is now working to determine a cause or manner of death to help solve the mystery surrounding the death of Hejji, last seen alive on December 23, 2020, walking along the Armagosa Trail.
Police told Hejji’s family that they have searched the area with K-9 units as well as nearby mountain ranges.
An independent investigator also contributed to the search with the family on social media and on the ground, distributing flyers.
“To me, it doesn’t seem right that she was found where we were looking,” Heggi’s sister Rowda said.
“I feel like somebody did something and brought her back, but it’s like so many different scenarios. We don’t know what happened.”
