Columbia news, South Carolina news.

A South Carolina couple was shot to death at their Columbia residence this week and police have arrested a suspect, their 27-year-old son.

Kevin Jackson Westberry is accused of fatally shooting his parents, Subrina Jackson Westberry, 60, and Kenneth Wayne Westberry, 59.

The son was arrested at the Columbia family home after someone requested a welfare check on the victims.

“Police went to the home on Newpark Place Thursday night after we received a call to conduct a welfare check,” Sheriff Jay Koon said.

“Deputies found the bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Westberry inside the house. Deputies immediately detained the son, who was at the home at the time of the welfare check.”

The suspect was charged with two counts of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He is being held without bond in the Lexington County Detention Center.
