Missouri Police trainee, 22, killed on-line of duty; suspect gunned down by officers

A Missouri officer in training was shot and killed Wednesday morning by a wanted man in the area of Independence, police said.

22-year-old Blaize Madrid-Evans was gunned down when he responded with fellow officers to reports of a wanted man in the area at around 11:30 a.m.

“It is pretty somber right now, just kind of a state of shock really,” Police Spokesman Jack Taylor said.

    The 33-year-old suspect, identified as Cody L. Harrison, was also shot and killed by fellow officers during the incident.

    “To think that things can’t be resolved peacefully, even if you had a warrant,” Sgt. Andy Bell with the MSHP said.

    “Why can’t it be resolved peacefully? Officers are trained to do their best, to resolve everything they can peacefully and it’s heartbreaking that violence of this nature could potentially take someone’s life, like this officer, and has taken on a life of another individual.”
