NM teen, 13, was shot and killed because he asked classmate to stop bully friends; Shooter apologizes, refuses food at jail

The New Mexico teen who was gunned down at an Albuquerque middle school had just asked his armed classmate to stop bullying others during lunch.

Bennie Hargrove, 13, died from his injuries at the University of New Mexico Hospital shortly after the Friday shooting.

Witnesses said that Hargrove told Juan Saucedo, also 13, to quit bullying his pals, that “he didn’t want to fight and to leave his friends alone.”

  • Saucedo pulled out the gun from behind his leg and fired several shots at his classmate. The gun reportedly belonged to the suspect’s father that would later come to the scene, too late to stop the teen’s plans.

    Officers said that Saucedo has refused food while incarcerated, claiming that he doesn’t “deserve to eat” and apologizing to his mom.

    He was charged with murder and unlawfully carrying a deadly weapon on school premises.
