Spartanburg news, South Carolina news.

South Carolina authorities investigate the death of a 3-year-old boy after he was left in a hot car outside his foster home Wednesday.

At around 5:45 p.m., the child’s guardian called 911 to report that she mistakenly left a toddler inside a car for hours, thinking he was at daycare with his siblings.

An autopsy confirmed the boy’s death as the result of heat exposure. Temperatures in Spartanburg reached 92 degrees that day.

“Hot car deaths continue to take place because nobody believes this could happen to them,” Kids& Cars Safety President Janette Fennell said.

“The unfortunate reality is that this has happened to even the most loving, responsible, and attentive parents. Factors such as fatigue, stress, or a sudden change in routine can contribute to parents unknowingly leaving a child alone in a car.”
