Florida authorities are investigating a mysterious incident after two girls’ bodies were discovered in the same canal within hours Tuesday.
Police said that a search of missing children's databases did not reveal any connection to the deceased girls.
Lauderhill Police Lt. Mike Santiago said that the first victim was found at around 12 p.m. and her body did not seem to have endured trauma.
The second body showed up at around 8:45 p.m. Both victims remain unidentified.
“We can’t determine at this point if they’re related, because it’s just, the juvenile was just found,” Santiago said. “However, detectives are trying to piece the puzzle together.”
Police said that the girls were presumably aged 10 to 12 years old. Witnesses told detectives that one of them may have been spotted in the area with another girl.
“It’s a serious thing. We have two juvenile females found deceased in the water,” Santiago said adding that investigators are looking for surveillance cameras near the scene.
