Florida authorities have arrested an 86-year-old man who gunned down his employer after he denied him another year of work at the family sugar mill.
Felix Cabrera asked his boss at the Sugar Cane Growers firm where he had worked for 31 years to keep working for another year due to financial issues but the victim did not accept.
“Cabrera became upset, pulled the gun out of his pocket and shot the victim several times, killing him,” police said.
The cooperative issued a statement over the murder that left employees “horrified and deeply saddened.”
“The victim was part of the Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative family, and we are praying for the victim’s loved ones, as well as all our team members and growers.”
Cabrera is being held without bond on one count of premeditated first-degree murder.
