During a debate on the Texas Capitol floor, Sen. Brandon Creighton collapsed Tuesday and was rushed to a local hospital.
The Republican lawmaker had been involved in a car crash two days earlier. Despite feeling impacted, he insisted to attend the State Capitol Session to vote on handguns carry legislation in Texas.
“Nothing will keep me from voting for HB1927 and for Texans constitutional right,” Creighton had said just before the debate.
The debate took nearly 6 hours before the lawmaker collapsed to the ground and was unconscious for several minutes.
Medics rushed to help Creighton who regained consciousness and walked with them off the floor. State Sen. Charles Perry said a prayer for Creighton shortly afterward.
“I thought it only appropriate when we see one of our colleagues hit the ground, that we all kind of have a shock factor. We know he’s in good hands, and I think he’s fine. Probably shouldn’t have been here.”
