A Minnesota Correctional Facility inmate who is serving a life sentence made grim expectations for Derek Chauvin’s future in jail.
“First of all, he’s a cop. Then he did what he did,” 45-year-old Hannibal Shaddai said. “So, it’s not safe for him to be here.”
He added: “Best case scenario for him is he’s going to get beat up a lot. I don’t think he’s safe in any prison population.”
Shaddai mentioned that violence unfolds regularly within the Oak Park Heights maximum-security jail.
“I’m dark-skinned so you know, it hits home,” he said referring to the footage of George Floyd’s murder that he watched from his cell.
“The dude is an abnormal man; we make him out to be a monster. Just like when I went to trial, the victim’s family said I was a monster.”
Chauvin’s defense filed for a new trial citing “jury misconduct” and revealing that one of the jurors had attended an anti-police demonstration last year.
