St. Louis officer dies less than a week after being charged with physically assaulting female colleague

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police, an officer who faced assault charges against a fellow female cop has passed away.

The sudden death of 31-year-old Rashad C. Lovelace came days after he was charged with four counts of fourth-degree domestic assault after he was spotted in many incidents punching a female officer.

  • Lovelace who has joined the police department in 2018 was reportedly the victim’s boyfriend. More than four fellow officers testified against him after witnessing the assaults.

    A judge had allowed Lovelace’s release on bond but ordered him to stay away from his victim.

    The late officer was due in court on May 18. His cause of death is being investigated, Sgt. Keith Barrett said.
