A California transit driver had been targeted by an arrow while on lunch break Tuesday and authorities believe the incident to be yet another hate crime against the company’s workers.
The unidentified man was hit in the back at around 2:30 p.m. while he walked with a friend. The Valley Transportation Authority’s employee was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Although police withheld the victim’s identity and current condition, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Spokesman Russell Davis said that things “could have been a lot worse.”
“It did penetrate through his skin. I would say fortunately this situation could have been a lot worse…it was pretty close to hitting some vital organs, from what I understand.”
The company’s officials said that the victim, who is a Sikh Community member, was doing “a little better by the day.”
Transit agencies’ employees are often targeted with verbal abuse and physical assaults. No suspects have been named so far.
