The Brooklyn Center cop who fatally shot 20-year-old Daunte Wright on April 11 was a 25-year veteran and mother-of-two.
Kimberly Potter, 48, mistakenly opened fire during a routine traffic stop while reaching for a Taser, police said.
Authorities said that Wright argued with officers after being pulled over for a traffic violation shortly before 2 p.m.
When the cops learned he had an outstanding warrant, they tried to arrest him while he got back into the car.
“The officer discharged her firearm, striking the driver. The vehicle traveled several blocks before striking into another vehicle.”
The 20-year-old’s mom told reporters that her son called her during the ordeal, telling her he had been pulled over because of an air freshener on his car’s rearview mirror.
“All he did was have air fresheners in the car and they told him to get out of the car,” she said. “He got out of the car and his girlfriend said they shot him.”
