Genuinely concerned for their safety: Wealthy Atlanta neighborhood residents consider moving out due to crime surge

Atlanta news, Georgia news.

Residents of one of the country’s richest neighborhoods are seriously considering moving out of their Atlanta homes that have been increasingly targeted amid a noticeable lack of security.

Buckhead residents are terrified after a series of violent crimes that included murders, robberies, and aggravated assaults.

“Our residents are genuinely concerned for their safety and the safety of their family members,” the Buckhead Exploratory Committee said adding that homicides during the last few weeks were 80 percent higher than the same period of last year.

In many incidents, surveillance footage caught armed thieves following up residents to their homes or robbing them at gunpoint. On Christmas, a 7-year-old girl was shot dead while out on a trip.

“You kind of are hopeful that this is a near-term trend,” an assault victim said. “At first it’s just a one-off, but then it keeps happening and you wonder, are we just stupid for staying here?”
