A tragic and uncommon incident on Interstate 69 in Texas has claimed the life of a 52-year-old mom traveling southbound with her 17-year-old son Thursday.
Carol Hardy was behind the wheel of her car when suddenly a tire flew off another vehicle driving northbound, bounced over the median, and crashed into her windshield.
Authorities said that the woman was fatally struck and died instantly while her son sustained injuries. The driver of the other involved truck, a 16-year-old, was not harmed.
Following the crash, Hardy’s car rear-ended another injuring its four occupants. The five injured were released from the hospital Friday.
“She was her kids’ biggest fan, and quite possibly the nicest person you’ve ever met,” a GoFundMe page for the victim’s family said.
“During this difficult time, we ask that you give what you can and say a prayer for this family. This is an unexpected loss that has left her family completely heartbroken.”
