Trump Impeachment Trial: Bruce Castor’s performance infuriated Trump; GOP Senators

Palm Beach news, Florida news.

Former President Donald Trump was said to be “furious” and “beyond angry” yesterday as he watched his defense attorneys deliver his case’s opening statement.

But lawyer Bruce Castor’s performance particularly infuriated the former president when he praised their opponents’ work calling the impeachment manager's introduction “well done.”

“The American people just spoke and they just changed administrations,” Castor said adding that Americans were smart enough to “pick a new administration if they don’t like the old one, and they just did.”

Social media platforms and some news outlets mocked the lawyer’s remark, with the AP running the headline: “Trump never conceded he lost, but his impeachment lawyer did.”

  • Many GOP Senators were left disappointed with Trump’s defense on the first day of his impeachment. It was the case of Ted Cruz and John Cornyn.

Mr. Castor “just rambled on and on and didn’t really address the constitutional argument,” Cornyn said. “I’ve seen a lot of lawyers and a lot of arguments and that was not one of the finest I’ve seen.”

The attorney defended his remarks in an interview, saying that when he called Democrats’ case “well done” he didn’t mean it was more effective.

“You put 100 people in the same room; you’re going to get 100 different opinions. We only lost one…so I believe we had a good day.”

The former President’s impeachment trial was ruled constitutional and therefore will go ahead after a 56-44 Senate vote.
