Worcester news, Massachusetts news.

A Massachusetts man has miraculously survived a weird incident after he unconsciously swallowed an Apple AirPod while sleeping over Monday night.

Brad Gauthier, 38, woke up the next morning unable to drink water and looking for the missing AirPod he last used to listen to music before he slept.

Gauthier’s son joked over the situation, telling his mom that dad might have eaten the missing equipment.

Gauthier continued: “At that point, I putzed around for another 10 minutes thinking about it but we all determined it’d be better safer than sorry to go the hospital.”

The x-rays confirmed the boy’s joke and Gauthier was told that he needs to undergo surgery to remove the AirPod that lodged in his esophagus.

“The physician said it’s extremely uncommon for a blockage not to be painful or severely discomforting. It never occurred to me that sleeping with headphones could be a safety hazard. I was really quite lucky,” he said.
