Days after being detained over unprovoked stabbing, prisoner strangles cellmate to death in Las Vegas Jail

Las Vegas authorities said that a 39-year-old inmate recently incarcerated for an unprovoked stabbing against a tourist has strangled his cellmate to death.

Metropolitan Police said that 59-year-old Blancy Yonko was found unresponsive in the cell he shared with Steven Revell. The discovery was made by a corrections officer conducting a routine walkthrough.

  • Yonko was rushed to a hospital and placed on life support before being pronounced dead Tuesday. Detectives said that Revell strangled the victim following a dispute.

    Revell was arrested on Dec. 5 after a “completely unprovoked” stabbing against a tourist on Fremont Street, Las Vegas.

    He was initially charged with attempted murder and possession of a controlled substance. He is now facing an additional open murder charge.
