Production of TBS’s show Wipeout has paused for more than a week after the sudden death of a contestant just after he completed the obstacle course on Wednesday.

The man felt sick and experienced chest pain shortly after finishing the task in Santa Clarita, California.

Paramedics present at the scene tried to help him using a defibrillator on him and rushed him to a hospital where he died.

The contestants of the TBS reboot undergo medical exams before completing the course, and medics are available at the scene for such incidents.

“We are devastated to have learned of his passing, and our deepest sympathy goes out to the family,” a network spokesperson said.

“We offer our heartfelt condolences to the family, and our thoughts are with them at this time.”

The series features athletes completing obstacles on a course: “Wipeout will feature twists and new elements that will push contestants’ athleticism and determination to even greater extremes,” the show’s website reads.
