Bellevue news, Nebraska news.

A Nebraska single mom who worked as a server at a Bellevue bar was fired from the job after she filmed the state Governor without a mask on Election night.

Karina Montanez was working at DJ’s Dugout when she saw the maskless Gov. Pete Ricketts among a crowd of people, all without a mask.

“Hey, Pete, where’s your mask? Where’s your mask, Pete?” she said on the Nov. 3 video she posted on Twitter.

“What are you doing, Pete? We’re in a pandemic, Pete.”

The footage didn’t get much attention initially until last week. It has more than 21,000 as of Thursday.

  • “I wasn’t bashing the restaurant,” Montanez said. “Yes, the video was recorded in the restaurant but the purpose of the video was to show people how our governor is about while we’re in this pandemic where people are literally dying.”

The restaurant’s CEO Sunni Renner said Montanez’s termination was because she used her phone while working.

“Although the social media post is believed to be political in nature, DJ’s Dugout respects each of its employee’s political affiliation, beliefs, and activities permitted under law.”

“However, these political affiliations, beliefs, and activities do not represent those of DJ’s Dugout.”

A spokesperson for the governor said that he was wearing his mask into the bar, but removed it inside where it is not required.
