Lakeland news, Florida news.

A welfare check at the house of a former Florida elected official and her husband revealed a grisly discovery when cops found them dead from several stab wounds.

According to Lakeland police, Edith and David Henderson were fatally stabbed inside their property on Nov. 10.

“The crime scene as you can imagine was absolutely horrific,” Chief of Detectives Sam Taylor told reporters Thursday.

Authorities were able to locate the Hendersons’ killer, Marcelle Waldon, in a motel room and took him into custody late Wednesday night.

The 36-year-old suspect faces murder charges as well as 9 other offenses. He was serving jail time in 2016 for burglary.

Once he returned, the suspect stabbed him as well: “We do not at this point in the investigation have any reason to believe he knew either one of the victims at all,” Taylor stated.

A witness told police he had spotted Waldon exiting the victims’ home carrying some of their personal belongings and jewelry.

Edith Henderson, 67, was a city commissioner for almost 12 years and has been recently chosen to serve three-four terms.

“She has ties in the community so this is, this is a gut punch. This hurts,” police said.
