Portland news, Oregon news.

Oregon Governor Kate Brown announced that several counties will be temporarily shut down amid the disturbing rise in new coronavirus cases recorded there recently.

The pause will begin on November 11 and end on November 25, a day before Thanksgiving.

The state reached on Thursday the highest number of coronavirus new cases with an unprecedented toll of 790 cases.

The governor’s restrictions urge companies and businesses to encourage online working, limit gatherings to six people, and the maximum capacity of bars and reactional facilities to 50 people.

Brown activated the State National Guard to help to apply the rules amid Anti-Trump protests that erupted in Multnomah County and resulted in 10 arrests.

The involved counties for the moment are Jackson, Malheur, Marion, Multnomah, and Umatilla, but other areas can be added.

“The two-week pause is a first step in our efforts to control the virus,” Brown said.

“I need all Oregonians to understand that additional closures may be imminent in two weeks if we don’t see reduced case counts.”
