A Florida mother was arrested this week after neighbors found her unclothed toddlers wandering alone on the sidewalk, police said.
Two women spotted the toddlers, ages 1 and 3, in the 700 block of West 37th Street in Hialeah and asked them about their home.
After learning where they lived from one of the toddlers, the women walked them home but were shocked by the mother’s alleged indifference.
“[She] shrugged and waved her off,” police said.
Officers responded to the incident and “witnessed the children walk outside unsupervised and the mother not in sight.”
They entered the home and questioned the mother, 25-year-old Heidy Teressa Diaz-Torres, about her children, but got no answer.
Police said the woman “appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.”
The officers searched the home and found “two pipes with residue of suspected methamphetamine in plain view.”
Diaz-Torres is facing felony child neglect with no great bodily harm. The Florida Department of Children and Families is involved in the case.
