Texas woman tries to escape in kayak after shooting husband dead; setting his truck on fire

A Texas woman has allegedly admitted to killing her common-law husband after she was arrested trying to flee in a kayak.

Faith Paige Goynes, 40, was taken into custody on Dec. 23, the day her 30-year-old husband Tomas Calavera Jr. was found dead in a closet with a gunshot wound to the face at his Bandera County home.

Calhoun County detectives located Goynes after she set her husband’s 2024 GMC pickup truck on fire near Port O’Connor.

    Responding deputies found her paddling away from the area in a kayak and arrested her.

    While a motive remains unclear, authorities said Goynes confessed to murdering Calavera, the father of her child, and setting his truck afire.

    She was charged with one count of murder and arson causing serious bodily injury or death.
