Three people died in a fiery crash involving a Tesla Cybertruck in the San Francisco Bay Area early Wednesday.
The truck jumped a curb, struck a tree and retaining wall near Seaview Avenue and Hampton Road in Piedmont shortly after 3 a.m.
The front end of the vehicle wrapped around the tree from the impact. Flames quickly engulfed the truck but the vehicle’s battery did not explode in the incident.
The only survivor of the crash was extracted from the wrecked truck by a passerby and rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
Three other occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses said the victims were college students visiting the area for Thanksgiving.
“This is just a tragic loss of life. We don’t know the cause of the collision and during the holiday season, our hearts go out to the families that are going to have to deal with this tragedy,” Police Chief Jeremy Bowers said.
