A young Brazilian woman died Tuesday after undergoing a form of liposuction called a hydrolipo procedure at an unlicensed São Paulo clinic.

Paloma Alves, 31, struggled to breathe moments after the procedure at Mana Day, an unlicensed beauty clinic, before she went into cardiac arrest.

The businesswoman was rushed to a local hospital, where she died despite all attempts to save her life.

The victim’s husband revealed that had been saving money for two years for the procedure that cost close to $1,700.

He accompanied Alves to the appointment with Dr. Josias dos Santos but felt something was weird when staff did not allow him to see his wife after the surgery.

“I realized that something was strange by the expressions on the employees’ faces, so I opened the door to the room where she would be, but she was no longer there.”

The husband entered the office to the lobby area, where he found the doctor performing chest compressions on Alves.

“No Health License was identified with municipal health surveillance or even a request for health licensing filed, it was fined and closed for carrying out irregular activity,” the São Paulo Municipal Health Department said in a statement.
