A Westchester County, New York social worker died Wednesday from injuries she suffered last month when she mistakenly knocked on her attacker’s door.
Maria Coto, 56, was brutally assaulted, punched, and kicked by 31-year-old Haseem Jenkins on May 14 when she mistakenly knocked on his third-floor door while attempting a home visit.
“I’m going to kill you,” the suspect reportedly shouted at the victim, according to a neighbor. “I’m going to kill you, b****.”
Coto’s death left her coworkers and loved ones “heartbroken,” Westchester County Executive George Latimer said.
“Maria was a dedicated employee of the Westchester County Department of Social Services, who was brutally attacked while selflessly performing her duties,” Latimer said.
“It is enraging that someone whose life was devoted to helping others was viciously taken from her friends and family.”
