Florida hospital worker turns off fridge, destroying over 1,000 of Covid-19 vaccine

Health officials in Palm Beach, Florida said that more than 1,000 doses of the coronavirus vaccine were spoiled after a hospital worker accidentally turned off the fridge where they were being stored.

It was a “human error” discovered on Jan. 22 y staff at the facility after they realized that the refrigerator at a mobile outreach vehicle was not power supplied.

The spoiled Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines were estimated at 232 vials that covered 1,160 doses.

  • The officials did not disclose the circumstances surrounding the incident but insisted that “additional layers of quality control” have been put in place.

    “One of the additional safeguards includes centralizing all vaccine supplies daily at a secure location with 24/7 power generator back-up.”

    The statement added that the “isolated incident” will not impact the inoculation procedure and that Palm Beach County residents can have the “utmost confidence in the integrity” of the local vaccine rollout.
