An 11-year-old Minneapolis boy died in his brother’s arms after he was shot in broad daylight at a local park Monday afternoon.
Amir Atkins was shot at around 2 p.m. at a public park. His brother carried him and cried for help before finding a Good Samaritan who agreed to take the injured boy to the hospital.
The man saw an officer on his way to the hospital and stopped to allow the law enforcement member to perform life-saving measures.
However, Amir was beyond help. He had died in his brother’s arms as he held him in the car.
“I cannot emphasize enough how terrible it is to have an 11-year-old boy shot and killed in the middle of the day,” said Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara.
“We need anyone with information to come forward so we can bring some sense of justice to this child’s family.”
“We are following every lead, but we need the public’s help to solve this.”
