Texas man kills stepfather with machete before ramming car into dump truck, killing himself

A Texas man accused of killing his stepfather with a machete allegedly intentionally crashed his SUV into a dump truck on FM-149.

Police responded to the crash just after 8:50 a.m., just two minutes before getting a call reporting the murder.

77-year-old Jeffrey Love was struck multiple times to the head with a machete.

His wife told detectives she spotted Nicholas Petropolis leaving the scene in a family car.

  • Petropolis was caught on dashcam video accelerating before slamming his SUV into the dump truck. He died in the crash.

    “There is video evidence that the suspect accelerated and entered into oncoming traffic just shortly before the collision was observed,” the MCSO Assistant Chief of Operations, Rick Bass, said.

    “This evidence was captured by a witness who had a dashcam that captured by a witness who had a dashcam that captured the entire incident.”

    The incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide. Detectives said a change in medication may have impacted the suspect’s behavior.

    “There are some indications early on that there was a change in his medication that may have altered his mood, but they’re (detectives) still running down that information.”
