Karen Read found not guilty of murder in death of officer boyfriend

Karen Read was found not guilty of killing her Boston Police officer boyfriend, John O’Keefe, in 2022.

Read was acquitted of charges including second-degree murder, manslaughter, and leaving the scene of the deadly accident.

She was sentenced to one-year probation for operating under the influence of liquor.

Her supporters cheered outside the courthouse as the verdict was being read.

    Prosecutors alleged Read fatally struck O’Keefe with her car after a night of drinking in January 2022 and left him to die during a blizzard outside the Canton home of a fellow officer.

    Read’s attorneys claimed O’Keefe was attacked by a dog and beaten by strangers who were in the house before being dumped in the snow and left for dead.

    Read thanked her “amazing supporters as she left the courthouse.

    “No one has fought harder for justice for John O’Keefe than I have – than I have and my team,” she said.
