‘Very horrific’: Suspect found surrounded by containers of human remains in SC home

Authorities in South Carolina made a gruesome discovery of a dismembered body while searching for missing persons.

The investigation started in Brunswick County, North Carolina, where concerned relatives reported Christy Ward and Charles Antwine Jr. missing since last week.

A deputy in Florence County, South Carolina, located Antwine’s submerged car at the Lynches River boat landing on Saturday.

  • Police went to Antwine’s address on Stillwater Road near Lake City to conduct a property check and smelled an unusual odor as they approached the home.

    Antwine did not answer the door. Deputies obtained a search warrant and forced entry to the home, where they found Antwine sitting on a couch, surrounded by containers.

    Human remains were found in the three plastic containers, which were taped shut. Investigators believe the victim is Ward.

    “It’s a very horrific crime. I’ve had my investigators out there all day, yesterday. And it’s one of the worst we’ve ever seen. It’s something like out of some horror movie. Very horrific,” Sheriff T.J. Joye said.
