Two boys are behind bars after they allegedly gunned down an Austin man when he tried to retrieve his stolen vehicle.
The 12 and 13-year-olds were charged with capital murder by terroristic threat in connection with the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Anthony Salas.
Salas was shot at least once on May 3 after he confronted the juveniles about the stolen vehicle. The murder reportedly occurred in front of other family members.
“Your life is worth more than property,” Det. Michael Decker said. “Very traumatic for them [the family].”
The teens were caught on surveillance footage burglarizing cars across the city.
“It’s terrible, the whole situation. My mind really can hardly go there. That young of children being able to do something like that, what causes it?” a resident wondered.
