An 8-year-old girl was found dead by her grandfather after she took part in a dangerous online challenge.
Sarah Raissa Pereira de Castro was found unconscious on the sofa with “purple fingers and lips” next to a phone and a can of spray.
The Brazilian girl was rushed to Ceilandia Regional Hospital, where she passed away three days later.
Investigators said the pillow the girl was on at the time of the incident was soaked with aerosol spray.
Her family blames the online deodorant craze that urges people to spray the antiperspirant on their skin for as long as they can bear it.
It is believed Sarah succumbed to the fumes from the spray. She was laid to rest on Monday.
“I left her all ready for school and went to work. The last memory I have of her was in good health,” the girl’s grieving mom said.
“These platforms, which are full of children watching, full of life to live, have no filter. Why are there no filters for children’s videos?” Sarah’s dad asked.
