Driver dead after crashing car into White House perimeter gate

A male driver died late Saturday after he crashed his vehicle into a White House perimeter gate, authorities said.

The fatal collision that took place shortly before 10:30 p.m. is being investigated “only as a traffic crash” and is not considered a threat to the president’s residence.

  • Washington Metropolitan Police said the car struck a security barrier at the intersection of 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW.

    “At this time, the incident is being investigated only as a traffic crash by MPD’s Major Crash Investigations Unit,” police said in a statement.

    The Secret Service confirmed that there was no threat to the White House as it continues investigating the incident along with the metro police.
