Michigan authorities have arrested a 17-year-old boy and charged him with the murder of another after finding the victim’s remains in a shallow grave behind the defendant’s home.
Lane Roslund, 17, went missing for nearly a month before his remains were discovered on Oct. 13 behind a Hastings Township residence where Patrick Hunter Gilmore lived with his grandfather.
“I’ll be very honest: I know Patrick,” the suspect’s neighbor Nancy Tuma said. “I know his granddad. I’m stunned. I don’t believe he did it.”
Authorities remained mum on details of Roslund’s death and how they named Gilmore a suspect in the case, adding to the locals’ outrage.
“That would be nice to find out what happened next door because it freaked me out when I found out that kid was dead because nothing happens around here,” another neighbor, Connie Coulter said. “I mean this is a slow community.”
Meanwhile, Tuma said that she is questioning the allegations against Gilmore, whom she described as a shy and nice kid.
“He mows the lawn. He’s always helping his grandpa. He cuts wood and they put it out in front for all the people going to the lakes for campfire.”
Gilmore was charged with county each of open murder and concealing a death.
