A New York City boy is recovering from severe wounds after a brutal dog attack at his aunt’s downtown Manhattan apartment on Tuesday.
The 11-year-old suffered injuries to his face, head, and arm when his aunt’s therapy American Bully pit bull mix mauled him at around 2:50 p.m.
The aunt, Johanna Lopez-Ramos, said that the victim Joshua, and his twin brother had been “overwhelming” the dog since they moved into her apartment following their mom’s death.
“So I guess their strength was too much for the dog,” she said. “I’m assuming that that must have been what happened.”
Lopez-Ramos said that the dog, which helped relieve her mental health struggles, never showed any signs of violence before Tuesday’s incident. Now, she will have her pet put down.
“I feel a little distraught to be honest because he’s my dog who supports me emotionally,” she said.
“It’s terrifying because I’ve never seen such a thing. I see it on the news all the time with other kids and other people, but I’ve never seen it in my face.”
