Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada may lift up some Canada-US border restrictions and allow immediate family members to reunite.

On Friday, during his daily press conference in Ottawa, Trudeau said that his state has been looking at ways of allowing close family members, children, spouses, or parents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents to be able to reunite under strict conditions through a slight modification of the directives for the Canadian Border Services Agency.

The Prime Minister explicitly said that anyone entering Canada would have to quarantine for 14 days. However, he acknowledged that a number of families are facing undue hardship with the border closure.

He said he is looking at other ways to support families going through extremely difficult times.

Canadians and permanent residents of Canada are currently allowed to enter the country at any time as long as they offer proof they will quarantine for 14 days.

The US-Canada border has been closed to all non-essential travel since mid-March. The current agreement will expire on June 21 and allows for essential commercial goods and workers to cross the border.
