A Colorado father drowned Wednesday while trying to rescue kids struggling in the water, authorities said.
Four children began struggling while swimming in a lake, and the 53-year-old man jumped into the water in an attempt to help them.
Officials said he also began to struggle and went underwater. He was pulled out of the water and pronounced dead about 40 minutes later.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials said two of the man’s children were involved in the incident.
He did not have a life jacket when he jumped into the cold water. The children were rescued and are with their families.
“CPW offers condolences to the family and friends of the victim and everyone involved in the incident,” said Lake Pueblo State Park Operations Manager Becky Buist.
