Louisiana teen, 19, admits to shooting mom, pet dog to death after he awoke ‘in angry state’ in middle of night

The community of Hammond is left reeling from a shocking massacre after a 19-year-old called the police on himself to confess to the gruesome killing of his own mother and her pet dog.

Johnathan Payne Kliebert called 911 at around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday to report that he had shot his 46-year-old mother, Ashley Kliebert, and her dog as they slept in a bed.

The teen told officers that he was waiting for them at the parking lot of a hospital where he was later located and arrested.

  • “Deputies responded to the hospital and located Kliebert in the parking lot while other deputies responded to the residence on Sisters Road,” the Tangipahoa Sheriff’s Office said.

    “When deputies arrived at the residence, they located a deceased white female identified as 46-year-old Ashley Kliebert in the master bedroom with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.”

    The suspect allegedly repeated his confession during questioning telling detectives that he “awoke in an angry state, brandished a shotgun, and killed his mother and her dog, both of which were asleep in the bed.”
