A San Francisco Univerity student remains missing since he tried a polar plunge off Esplanade Beach last Thursday.
22-year-old Hamzah Alsaudi never washed up again after he jumped into the rough waters at around 10:30 a.m. with two pals.
The friends described seeing the sophomore wrestler getting pulled away from the shore. They tried looking for him by themselves but then swam back to the beach and asked for help when their efforts went unsuccessful.
The search for Alsaudi involved lifeguards, officers, and Coast Guard agents and used drones, aircraft, and a vessel. However, authorities called off the search Friday and announced that it won't resume over the weekend.
“I write to you with a heavy heart. At this time, we have been told that authorities are no longer actively searching for Hamzah and he is considered missing,” the university said in a release.
