Former President Donald Trump tried to end the dramatic speakership race late Friday by calling two Republican holdouts who refused to vote for McCarthy in the 14th ballot.

Trump called Reps. Matt Gaetz and Andy Biggs, who were former supporters of his, inciting them to support McCarthy's bid and end the drama, Politico reports.

McCarthy was ultimately nominated as Speaker of the House when four Republican hardliners switched their votes to “present” offering him the majority vote he needed to win the gavel.
