According to Governor John Bel Edwards, a tornado severely damaged buildings, vehicles and power lines on Thursday in the city of Ruston, northern Louisiana. the Tornado also killed two people.

National Meteorological Service hydrologist C.S. Ross said the tornado had cut a 209-kilometer stretch from eastern Texas to the Louisiana-Arkansas border.

The president of Louisiana Tech University, Les Guice, said on Twitter that classes were canceled Thursday.

The tornado was part of a severe weather system that pounded Texas with rain Wednesday, killing a woman and her two children whose vehicle was caught in the waters of a flash flood.
