Missing trucker’s body found in Iowa field months after he vanished while transporting livestock

The badly decomposed body of a missing trucker was found Wednesday in a farmer’s field in Sac County, Iowa months after he mysteriously vanished while transporting livestock.

David Schultz, 53, was reported missing on Nov. 21, 2023, when he failed to arrive at the drop-off location.

Police said he picked up a load of pigs from hog confinement and left at around 10:50 p.m. the previous night.

    The search for Schultz involved volunteers and deputies who combed through 100,000 acres around where his truck was located.

    Schultz’ wife said his decomposed remains were found just 1.5 miles from that spot. Deputies brought the woman her late husband’s boots to help identify the remains.

    The Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to officially identify the remains and determine a cause of death.
