13-year-old Pennsylvania boy charged as adult for fatally shooting younger boy over joke

A Pennsylvania teen was charged as an adult with third-degree murder over the cruel shooting death of a 12-year-old on April 1.

Witnesses said that Nolan Grove, 13, made a joke about Kain Heiland’s mother near his home in Red Lion, York County to which the victim retorted, angering the suspect.

Surveillance footage showed Grove pointing the gun at Heiland as he shielded himself on the ground before firing the fatal shot.

  • “I am so sorry, K,” Grove allegedly said after shooting Heiland, according to witnesses.

    Grove was charged as an adult with third-degree murder, firearms violations, involuntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm by a minor and recklessly endangering another person.

    “Decisions to charge anyone, let alone a 13-year-old, with third-degree murder are taken with the utmost seriousness and care,” the York County DA said.
