Man charged after Alabama boy, 4, accidentally shoots self to death with unsecured gun

Authorities in Huntsville, Alabama have arrested the owner of a firearm involved in the fatal shooting of 4-year-old Kaiden Everson last weekend.

Nickarious D. Shun McConnico, 20, was charged with criminally negligent homicide over the tragic death that occurred Sunday morning at an apartment complex at 196 Jeff Road.

Investigators determined that McConnico left his loaded firearm on a coffee at the child’s home where he had been spending the night and went to sleep.

    The boy was declared dead at Huntsville Hospital just after 8 a.m., Madison County Coroner Tyler Berryhill said.

    “At this time, the investigation is ongoing into the circumstances surrounding this incident and how these events transpired,” he said following the incident.
