California man falls to death while hiking with wife in Oregon

A California man died Sunday after falling 300 feet to his death off a cliff in Curry County, Oregon.

Richard Ehrhart, 69, was spotted lying unresponsive on rocks by a person who called 911 at 2:53 p.m.

A rescue team including deputies and a police trooper rappelled 300 feet down the cliff to where Ehrhart’s body was located.

Investigators believe that the victim separated from his wife while hiking on the trail.

    “We here at the Curry County Sheriff’s Office express our condolences to the family and friends of Richard Ehrhart,” the department posted on Facebook.

    “We also want to remind everyone of the dangers of hiking the coastal trails, and to please be safe.”

    An autopsy is scheduled to determine the man’s cause and manner of death.
