Carpet cleaner gunned down inside van by tattooed woman in ‘random shooting’

Authorities in Las Vegas believe that a 27-year-old woman shot and killed a carpet cleaner inside his van in a “random” attack Tuesday.

Kayla Alery was arrested shortly after she shot and killed 41-year-old Raul Cardoza in his van at around 4 p.m.

Cardoza was visiting an apartment complex in west Las Vegas to provide an estimate to a resident when he was ambushed.

  • Witnesses recognized Alery through her facial and neck tattoos. Police said she was burglarizing vehicles outside the building at the time of the shooting.

    “This appears to be a random shooting,” said Lt. Jason Johannson.

    Alery has a lengthy rap sheet including arrests for arson, domestic battery, and grand larceny.
