Oregon authorities have not filed any charge against the parents of a 3-year-old toddler who fired at himself while playing with a loaded gun that was staffed in an unlocked drawer.
James Kenneth Lindquester was found bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head while his family members hopelessly tried to save him.
Paramedics rushed to the Aloha home Friday at around 10 p.m. and “took over life-saving efforts from the family,” police said.
Less than two hours later, James was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
“The death of a child is the absolute worst call that we go to,” Deputy Shannon Wilde said. “It’s tough; a lot of us are parents ourselves. I know some of the responders on the scene last night have children, some have children the same age as this little boy and it’s tough. We see a lot of horrible things but seeing a child in that situation is the worst.”
The investigation into the fatal shooting continues but authorities said James “had gotten the handgun out of a bedroom end table drawer and shot himself in the head.”
